Strasburg VA Real Estate, Strasburg area and Community Information
Strasburg, Virginia, is a growing community in the extreme northwestern part of the state. Much of its recent growth can be attributed to the fact that the Washington D.C. metropolitan area is 50 miles away. Strasburg is scenically situated in the northern part of the Shenandoah Valley. The community of about 7,000 is bordered by the Shenandoah River, the Massanutten Mountains and the Allegheny Mountains.
German-speaking settlers migrated here from Pennsylvania in the early 18th century. Farmers were attracted to the fertile soil of the valley. Peter Stover founded the community in 1749 when he divided up 483 acres into lots that were sold to other settlers. The town was chartered as Strasburg in 1761. It was named after Strasbourg, the capital of the French province of Alsace.
